Weekend at RYLA- Day 2

On day two of my experience at RYLA the theme was teamwork. We went through a ShelterBox activity from 8:30 AM to 12:30 AM. During this activity we were in a scenario where we were part of an emergency relief squad from the organization ShelterBox and had to work as a team to help feed and house the people affected by the disaster. In the first part of this activity we had to set up and emergency housing tent with our team of ten people the only difficult part of this was that only two people were allowed to speak and the rest couldn't so this activity tested our ability to communicate with others when we can't understand them. In the second activity we had to take a specific path through boxes to get water to a filtration system the hard part was we didn't know what path to take so each time we messed up he had to start from the beginning this was difficult because we had to memorize a certain path and take that back and forth. Through this activity we learned to communicate with the team that way you are able to confirm your path and can do it quickly and safely. The next activity was going through customs which as the ones who processed the "goods" we were supposed to bring into the country to help out the hungry. In the end I had to lead and translate to the group what he was saying and coordinate them so that we can do the steps correctly and get the job done. In the end to finish this activity we had to make things very clear with them and what were the rules so we didn't have to go around in circles and also had to bribe him to finish the process because some times in life it is necessary. After this we had to do and activity where we were wrapped together and had to follow directions to get our this was important because if we all went in different directions and didn't communicate we would all fall. The last activity was a lava pit where we were all lined up on a ledge and had to organize ourselves from tallest to shortest be moving across each other. Through this activity we learned to get comfortable with a group of people to achieve a goal with a group of ten people we were able to do this in 31 seconds at our fastest. After this from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm we had to complete a ropes course with our group two at a time. The one we had was called the giants ladder in which was 45 feet high up to the bell we had to climb a a rope net up 20 feet and then the rest of the way up was through these floating steps of wood which were each about 4.5 to 5 feet apart vertically. To complete this course I had to help my partner by assisting her as we went up the course since she wasn't as strong as me and had trouble pulling herself from the rope that was set up to go straight up to the bell perpendicular to the steps. Through this challenge I learned to motivate and assist people to complete a task that needs to be completed. Later from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm we had a speaker named Michael Ford who spoke to us about potential and how if we want to get something we can because each of us has potential that is suppressed as we go on throughout our daily lives and how with any idea we can change the world no matter how small or mediocre if you act upon it and visualize it you can make these goals happen. After from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm we had to present a skit from each family ours was based on the ideals of leadership and how in a group we should all plan to be fair and find an idea we can all agree on. Though this Sunday I was able to complete 10 hours of activities for my project adding on to my 21 hours making it 31 hours out of 25.
